Black poplar is a well-known dicotyledonous tree in the willow family. Black poplar grows everywhere along river banks, in floodplain oak forests, flood meadows and forests; it is also cultivated for ornamental purposes. A lot of people don't like it because of the fluff. Leaves play an important role in clearing dust from the air and in enriching it with oxygen. The sticky substance of bee buds is used in the production of propolis, a valuable medicinal product. Young leaves secrete phytoncides, which have a destructive effect on microbes, protozoa, and fungi (C. С. Luzhansky).

Poplar buds are used while they are still sticky, highly resinous; less commonly, the leaves, sap and charcoal of the wood. Buds contain glycosides populin and salicin, essential oil, phytoncides, resin, wax, salicylates, flavonoids, caffeic acid, organic acids, gum, vitamin C, tannins, leaves contain a lot of vitamin C.
