Dryflower annual (Xeranthemum annum L.)


Ukr.: dry flower, dewlap.

Droughtflower is an annual from the aster family with a height of 15-60 cm. Inflorescences are solitary, large pink-purple, less often white. It blooms from June through August. It grows well in culture. Annual dry flower is found everywhere in steppes, on dry stony outcrops, slopes. Flowers containing flavones are used. Included in the collection according to the prescription of M. Н. Zdrenko.

Droughtflower annual has a styptic effect. Used in folk medicine for uterine bleeding, peptic ulcer disease of the stomach and intestines, diseases of the heart, nervous system, cholecystitis.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 10-20 g dried flowers in 0.5 liters of boiling water - 1/3 cup 3 times a day as styptic.


2. Infusion of 15 g dried flowers and 10 g horsetail in 1 liter of boiling water - 50 g 3 times a day for painful menses.



Marsh wheatgrass (Gnaphalium uliginosum L.)


Wheat grass, toad grass, Ukr.: dry flower bolotany, dry flowers.

Marsh wheatgrass is an annual small plant from the family of complex flowers with grayish pubescence. The stem is 5-30 cm tall. Inflorescences are baskets consisting of very small yellowish-white flowers. It blooms in June through August.

In Donbass it is found occasionally in the Seversky Donets river basin. Marsh wheatgrass grows in wet meadows, on muddy and sandy banks of rivers and ditches.

The herb used is wheatgrass, which contains essential oil, the alkaloid gnaphalin, many resins, carotene, vitamin C, phyto-sterols, tannins and traces of vitamin B. Swamp wheatgrass has vasodilating, hypotensive, antimicrobial, wound healing, choleretic, laxative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and sedative properties.

It is used in medicine for hypertension stage I-II, atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, peptic ulcer disease, ulcerative colitis.

The efficacy of treatment of the initial stage of hypertension with wort was confirmed in the therapeutic clinic of the Izhevsk Medical Institute (prof. А. Я. Gubergrits, doc. Д. М. Rappoport and A. И. Chukavina). Prof. В. П. Lukanin, reports successful treatment of cardiac neuroses with moderate hypertension and gastric, intestinal and gallbladder neuroses.

М. М. Panchenkov successfully used 5% infusion of wheat grass and 3-4% decoction of bilberry root for gastric and duodenal ulcers. Previously, extracts of these plants were produced in tablets.

In folk medicine, wheatgrass is also used for various internal and external bleeding, gastritis, colitis, neuroses, palpitations, headaches, diarrhea, tuberculosis and lung abscess, scurvy, diabetes mellitus and other diseases. Widely used it externally in the form of compresses, lotions, tampons, tampons, sphincters from the infusion of the herb wheatgrass, as well as ointments in the treatment of wounds, ulcers, burns, fistulas, erosions of the cervix, etc. д. Powder of wheatgrass is sprinkled on the skin with wet eczema, lichen planus and prolapse of hemorrhoidal bleeding nodes as a styptic agent (A. П. Levchuk).

In hypertension take decoction of wheat grass inside in combination with foot baths (150 g of grass brewed in 3 liters of boiling water, insist 30 minutes) for 30 minutes.

With varicose veins of the lower legs make foot baths from the infusion of 100 g of herbs wheatgrass in 5 liters of boiling water (insist 10 hours), the duration of the bath 20-30 minutes at a temperature of 32-37 ° C. Ointment is prepared from 10 g of wheat grass powder in 100 g of butter and honey (equally); or 100 g of dried wheat grass boiled in 0.5 liters of vegetable oil or insist 1 month.

During the war years, JI. А. Almazov proposed an alcohol-oil extract: cut wheat grass was moistened with a sufficient amount of 40% alcohol and insisted for 12 hours in a closed vessel at room temperature, stirring constantly. Then the mass was transferred to a cauldron, sunflower oil was added, gently heated on a water bath for 24 hours, after which it was squeezed out, filtered - for the treatment of purulent wounds and ulcers (cit. By A. Д. Turova).

Methods of application:


1. 2 Art. spoonfuls of wheat grass (or 15-20 g) to insist in 0.5 liters of boiling water in a thermos - 150 ml 3 times a day; or use a decoction of cut-pressed herb, as indicated on the box for hypertension.


2. Decoction of 30-40 g of wheat grass in 300 ml of water - 15 ml 6-8 times a day; or 15 ml after 2 hours for hemoptysis; or 100 ml 3 times a day for heavy menstruation.


3. 5% decoction of wheat grass - 50-100 ml 30 minutes before meals and 3-4% decoction of bilberry root - 15 ml 3 times a day after meals for 1-2 months for peptic ulcer disease.


4. 20% tincture of 40% alcohol - 1/2-1 tsp. spoon 3 times a Day for hypertension and pulmonary tuberculosis.


5. 20% tincture of wheat grass on vegetable oil - 15 ml in the morning on an empty stomach, 1 h before lunch and 2 hours after dinner (for peptic ulcer) and for external use.


6. Infusion of 4-5 tbsp. spoonfuls of wheat grass in 0.5 liters of boiling water - for external use in wounds, burns.


7. Collection of herbs wheatgrass, St. John's wort, plantain leaves - 40 g, herbs goldenseal, ergot, oregano, sage leaves - 20 g, marigold flowers - 15 g, mint leaves and roots of aira - 10 g, cumin fruit - 6 g, 40 g of the mixture (6-7 tbsp. spoons) insist in 1 liter of boiling water for 12 hours - 1/2 cup 3-4 times a day an hour after meals for 2 months and more with hyperacid gastritis and peptic ulcer.



Contraindicated wheatgrass in hypotension and thrombophlebitis..
