Geranium meadow (Geranium pratense L.)


Cranebill, Ukr.: vovchy paws, vovchura.

Perennial from the geranium family. It blooms in June through October. It grows everywhere in meadows, glades, in bushes, along the banks of rivers and streams.

The herb and rhizomes with roots are used for medicinal purposes. In all parts of the geranium plant there are a lot of tannins, calcium, in the stems - traces of alkaloids, in the leaves - vitamin C and carotene. Geranium has astringent, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, styptic and soothing properties. It is used only in folk medicine for gastritis, peptic ulcer, enterocolitis, diarrhea, dysentery, various internal and external bleeding, etc. д.

Externally appointed for gargling for gum disease, stomatitis, sore throat, toothache, in the form of spritzing, bath, wash, compress for eczema, ulcers, festering wounds, pustular skin diseases, boils, fistulas, itchy skin, dermatitis. Dry powder is sprinkled on bleeding wounds. Ashes from the herb geranium mixed with sour cream - for lichen. Washing your scalp to strengthen your hair. In nosebleeds in the form of tampons moistened with the infusion or decoction.

Methods of application:


1. Decoction of 30 g of root or 5 tbsp. spoonfuls of geranium herb in 0.5 liters of water - 15 ml in 1-2 hours as an astringent and styptic.


2. 20% tincture of the root - 2-3 tsp. spoonfuls 3 times a day as an astringent.


3. 2-3 ч. spoonfuls of herbs geranium insist 8 hours in 0.5 liters of cold water (daily dose) - for neuroses, epilepsy.


4. Fresh juice of geranium plant - 20-30 drops after 2-3 hours as a styptic.



Peppercorn (Polygonum hydropiper L.)


Water pepper, Ukr,: prchak pertseviy.

An annual of the buckwheat family, very burning flavor when fresh (Fig. 6). The stem is erect, knee-shaped, reddish, branched, up to 60-70 cm high. Leaves are lanceolate, ordinary. Flowers are small, white or greenish-pink in hanging clusters at the ends of stems. It blooms from June through September. It is found along the banks of rivers, streams, damp and swampy places in many areas of Donbass.

Used herb gentian, collected during flowering, containing: flavonoids, vitamins K, C, E, glycoside polygopiperin, essential oil, organic acids, tannin.

It has long been used in folk medicine for chronic endometritis, dysmenorrhea, bleeding. Experimentally studied and introduced into medicine by Prof. N. П. Kravkov in 1912. and later S. А. Kaminska.

It is used in scientific medicine as a styptic agent in obstetric and gynecological practice, as well as for internal, external and nonobstructive hemorrhoidal bleeding. Many people believe that the fresh plant is more potent than the dried plant. In Bulgaria, the herb is contraindicated in inflammation of the kidneys and bladder. In China, the leaves of the gentian plant are used as a pungent spice in food. In the Far East, roots are used as a remedy that strengthens and improves male sexual functions (A. И. Schroeter). In dropsy use fresh juice of herb gentian 4 tbsp. spoonfuls diluted in 750 g of whey, drink a glass every 2 hours.

Infusion (or decoction) of the herb gentian is used for gargling for gum disease and tonsils, spritzing for bleeding, for rinsing and baths for purulent wounds ("wild meat"), sitting baths for hemorrhoids and itching of the anus. Dry powder or fresh juice of gentian herb treat wounds. As an analgesic poultice of gentian herb in eczema, bruises, abscesses, abscesses. Crumbs of fresh young herb gentian applied to festering wounds, scrofula, cuts, boils, gangrenous wounds, hemorrhoids. In these diseases is also used ointment from the herb gentian . Rinse the mouth with toothache and periodontal disease with the juice of gentian herb with water in a ratio of 1 : 10. Crush of fresh leaves instead of mustard brush applied to the back of the head with runny nose and headache. The fresh herb along with the seeds are used to get rid of freckles on the face.

Methods of application:


1. 10% infusion of gentian herb - 1/3 cup 3-4 times a day before meals as a styptic.


2. Extract of water pepper liquid - 30-40 drops 3-4 times a day for 30 minutes before meals as a styptic.


3. Gentian herb powder - 0.5 g several times a day as a styptic.


4. Decoction of a handful of fresh or 1 tbsp. spoonfuls of dry herb gentian in 0.5 liters of water (boil 5-15 minutes), drink a day in 3 receptions as a styptic.


5. 10% tincture of fresh or dried herb gentian on 40% alcohol 50 drops - 0.5 - 1 tsp. a spoonful three times a day as a styptic.


6. Juice from the plant gentian, preserved 40% alcohol in a ratio of 1:1 - 0.5-1 tsp. a spoonful three times a day as a diuretic.


7. 150-200 g fresh or 100 g dry herb gentian boil 15 minutes in 2 liters of water, then add 0.5 liters of milk and a tbsp. a spoonful of starch. Do lukewarm sitting baths daily or every other day for 1-2 months for hemorrhoids (K. В. Dobrokhotova, A. А. Pisarev),
