Forest strawberry
.Woodland strawberry is a well-known perennial herbaceous plant from the rose-flower family, 5-20 cm tall. Grows in forests, between bushes, in forest glades almost all over the USSR. Forest strawberry blooms in May - June, fruits ripen in June - July.
Leaves and fruits are used. Forest strawberry has a faint odor, the taste is somewhat astringent (Fig. 24).

Chemical composition and properties of strawberries
Useful properties of strawberries have been used by phytotherapists and healers since ancient times. The leaves contain tannins, ascorbic acid (250-280 mg%), traces of alkaloids, essential oil, berries contain sugars (6-9.5%), a significant amount of folic acid, citric, malic, salicylic and phosphoric acids, anthocyanins, pectin substances, ascorbic acid (20-50 mg%), carotene (0.3-0.5 mg%), essential oil, traces of vitamin B, quercitin and quercitrin, manganese. The chemical properties of strawberries are not fully understood, such as their flowers. The seeds dotting the surface of the berries are high in iron.
Action and application
.Useful properties of strawberries tannins and flavonoids determine the use of leaves and berries for diarrhea, inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, night sweats; externally for hemorrhoids, wet wounds, in the form of compresses (D. Yordanov, 1963). Infusion of strawberry leaves in the experiment with intravenous injection slightly reduces blood pressure, slows down the rhythm and increases the amplitude of heart contractions, dilates peripheral vessels, increases the contraction of the uterine musculature. It has a diuretic effect.
The wild strawberry is one of the first berries used by mankind and used by many peoples for medicinal purposes. According to literary sources, the properties of strawberries were used thousands of years before our era.
Infusion of strawberry fruit and leaves is used as a diuretic, in the treatment of gout, kidney and liver stones, scurvy and other avitaminosis, as well as uterine bleeding. Fresh juice is good to take on an empty stomach 4-6 tablespoons for kidney stone, gallstone disease and gout. In addition, the properties of strawberries in fresh berries and in an infusion of dried berries have a weak diuretic effect and are recommended for kidney stone disease and as an anti-inflammatory agent, colitis, gastritis, as well as hypochromic anemia.
In the GDR and FRG used dried strawberry leaves (3 g leaves brewed 400 g of boiling water and take this tea during the day sips) for gallstone disease, spleen disease, gastritis, bronchial asthma, nervous seizures and insomnia, as a therapeutic enemas for hemorrhoidal bleeding, as compresses for wet and bleeding wounds, as well as suppuration in the mouth, throat and stinky breath. Old German writings mention the usefulness of strawberry seeds.
In Poland, strawberry herb in the flowering period is used for atherosclerosis, kidney disease, bladder disease, kidney stones and sand in the kidneys, gout, as a metabolism-regulating agent for skin diseases.
In some people, strawberries cause idiosyncrasies.
In domestic folk medicine, wild strawberry was used as a digestive and appetite-improving, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, wound-healing remedy, for gout, kidney and liver stones, liver disease. Decoction of strawberry leaves was used for choking, uterine bleeding, stomach ulcers, gastritis, general decline of strength, anemia, hypertension and sclerosis, heart disease, etc. Strawberry tea drank from colds, fresh juice from berries - on an empty stomach on 4 spoons from scurvy and liver disease, fresh leaves externally applied to old ulcers. Strawberry leaf is used as a tea surrogate, while fresh strawberries are used to help loosen tartar.
In England, strawberries are considered a folk remedy. The properties of strawberries were able to cure severe ailments. Decoction of its leaves is used for mouthwash and tonsillitis, and berries - for fever, tonsillitis and constipation. In Bulgarian folk medicine decoction of rhizome and leaves with berries were used for stones and sand in the kidneys, bladder, gallbladder, gout, as a mild remedy for bronchitis and skin abscesses (D. Yordanov, 1963).
In Russian folk medicine dried wild strawberries were used in collections with other plants for gout, sciatica, neuralgia, rheumatism, inflammation and stones in the liver and gallbladder, nephritis and kidney stones, as well as dysentery.
We use strawberries (fruit) as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-anemic, diuretic, metabolism booster, mild hypotensive. The vitamin properties of strawberries are beneficial to the human body.
Recommended for gallstone and kidney stone disease, anemia, hypertension, atherosclerosis.
Goldense Umbrella
.Goldenseal umbrella (the name of the plant is from Ancient Greek. "Centaur" - Centaur Chiron, according to legend, is a connoisseur of herbs, who treated wounds with the juice of this herb) - a biennial or annual herbaceous plant of the gentian family with a root rosette of obovate leaves. The stem of goldenseal umbrella has a slender, erect, tetrahedral, 15 -35 cm high. Stem leaves are suprotic, entire-edged, sessile, linear-lanceolate. Flowers are small, bright pink, five-toothed, gathered in a shield-like panicle at the top of the stems. It blooms from mid-July to September (Fig. 25).
Goldenseal umbrella is distributed in the middle and southern zone of the European part of the USSR, in the Crimea, the Caucasus, Western Siberia, and Central Asia.
Goldenseal umbrella grows in flood meadows, along riverbanks, between bushes at the edges of forests.
The flowering stem tops and rosettes of root leaves, collected at the beginning of flowering, are used. There is no odor, the taste is bitter.
Chemical composition
.Alkaloids (genocyanine), bitter glycosides (genziopicrin, eritaurine, erythrocentaurine, etc.), and bitter glycosides (genciopicrin, eritaurine, erythrocentaurine, etc.) are found in the herb.), flavone glycoside, ascorbic and oleanic acids, essential oil, mucilages, etc.
The effects and uses of goldenseal
Goldenseal preparations have an appetite stimulating effect, increase intestinal peristalsis. Genzianin has been experimentally found to have anthelmintic properties. The use of goldenseal is recommended as a bitter to improve digestion.
Umbrella goldenseal is an official raw material in 14 countries of the world (Klan, 1948), including the USSR.
According to Bulgarian researchers, the above-ground part of goldenseal stimulates secretion and peristalsis of the digestive system, stimulates appetite, improves digestion, and also has a mildly laxative effect. The use of goldenseal is recommended for stomach achilia, constipation, flatulence, heartburn, liver disease, insufficient bile secretion, anemia and diabetes. Used mainly infusion: 3 g of herb pour 500 ml of boiling water, strain after 10 minutes, take for l, 5 hours before meals (daily dose). Appointed also herb, grinded into powder, 1-2 g several times a day.
In domestic folk medicine, the use of goldenseal in the form of decoction is prescribed for various gastrointestinal diseases: gastritis with increased secretion of gastric contents, dysentery, dyspepsia, flatulence, heartburn, vomiting, as an anthelmintic, lung, liver and gallbladder diseases, kidney, malaria, anemia, against alcoholism and heart disease.
Included in teas to increase appetite.
The herb is used as a substitute for gentian root to prepare bitter tinctures ("hinna", etc.).).
