Small-leaved linden (heart-shaped linden)



Small-leaved linden is a well-known broad-leaved tree, widely distributed as a forest-forming species. Occurs in the southeast in forest-steppe areas, in the undergrowth of deciduous forests.

Linden is a tree up to 30 m tall, its bark is smooth, dark brown. Leaves are petiolate, without leaflets, heart-shaped at the base, finely serrate along the margin. Flowers are fragrant, pale yellow, in semi-umbrellas. Small-leaved linden blooms in June and July.

Linden flowers contain essential oil, glycoside, tannins, wax, sugar, mucilage, vitamin C, carotene. The leaves contain phytoncides.

For medicinal purposes, flowers with bracts and leaves are harvested in June-August; bark - in early spring or late fall.

Small-leaved linden is widely used in folk medicine. Its color has long been used as a diaphoretic. Infusion of flowers is recommended for gargling the mouth, pharynx in inflammatory processes.

Boiled young lime bark yields a lot of mucilage and is used to treat burns, gout, and hemorrhoids. Decoction of fresh flowers is used internally for resections in the urethra. Crushed fresh buds or fresh leaves are used locally as an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and emollient for burns, inflammation of the mammary glands. Leaf powder is used to stop nosebleeds. Small-leaved linden reduces headaches, its leaves are tied around the head in ailments.

Magnolia largeiflorum (magnolia large-flowered)



Magnolia large-flowered is bred in our Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. This evergreen tree with light brown bark reaches a height of up to 30 meters.

Its leaves are simple, oblong, leathery, short-petiolate, glabrous from above, shiny, densely shortly pubescent from below. Flowers are solitary, large, fragrant. Fruits are leathery, single-seeded. Seeds are red, hanging on thin filaments in mature fruit. Magnolia large-flowered blooms in June. The plant is poisonous!

Leaves and flowers are harvested for medicinal purposes during flowering; bark - in March; fruits and seeds - in the fall.

Magnolia leaves contain alkaloids, rutin, and essential oil.

Magnolia large-flowered causes a prolonged and persistent lowering of blood pressure, dilates blood vessels, reduces palpitations and heart pain, improves the general condition of patients, has a diuretic effect.

An infusion of magnolia leaves is used for baldness, and a tincture is used for rheumatism. Liquid alcohol extract is prescribed in hypertension, mainly in the early stages of its development.

Japanese tangerine (Unshnu citrus)



Mandarin Japanese evergreen tree reaches a height of 4 m, its branches are grayish, with leathery fragrant leaves containing numerous reservoirs of essential oil. The flowers are small, fragrant, white. Fruits are roundly flattened, orange-yellow, sour-sweet, with easily separable thin aromatic rind containing essential oil. The mandarin blooms in February through April. It bears fruit in October through December.

Japanese mandarin contains sugars, organic acids, particularly citric acid, vitamins (primarily vitamin C), phytoncides. The peel contains orange and yellow pigments, including carotene, alcohols, aromatic essential oil, consisting of aldehydes and methyl ester, which gives the peculiar smell and taste of tangerine oil. Essential oil is also found in the flowers, leaves and young shoots.
