Marshall's thyme (Thymus marschalianus Wild.)

Marshall's thyme is a small, well-known perennial fragrant plant of the clematis family. Stems are erect, creeping, forming turf, 10-20 cm high. Flowers are pale pink and pink-purple, small, collected in cylindrical inflorescences. It blooms in June through July.

Marshall's thyme grows everywhere in the steppe, on steppe slopes. In northern areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions - on sands, in rare pine forests, Pallas' thyme (T. thyme. pallasianus H. Vg.) closely related to thyme creeping thyme. There are 10 species of thyme in Donbass. For medicinal purposes, thyme herbs of various species are used, collected during the flowering period. You can't pull it out by the roots.

Thyme herb contains over 1% essential oil, the main components of which are phenols - thymol and others. Tannins, bitters, organic acids, flavonoids, gum and mineral salts are also found in Marshall's thyme. Thymol is obtained from the essential oil of thyme.

The preparations have anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, bactericidal, anticonvulsant, blood purgative, expectorant, sedative, diaphoretic, analgesic, antispasmodic, anthelmintic, diuretic and vetrogonic action, similar to common thyme cultivated in the south of Ukraine.

Marshall's Thyme

Marshall's Thyme is used medicinally for laryngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, whooping cough, bronchial asthma, gastrointestinal diseases accompanied by decreased gastric secretion, intestinal atony or spasms and flatulence. As an antimicrobial and deodorizing agent - for mouth and throat rinse. Thyme extract is included in Pertussin, instead of thyme, which is used for whooping cough. Included in the efcamon ointment.

In folk medicine is also used in emphysema of the lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis, hypertension, atherosclerosis, neuralgia, radiculitis, paralysis, neuroses, hysteria, insomnia, headaches, tapeworms, alcoholism, cystitis, anemia, hemorrhoids, diseases of the joints and female genital organs.

Take internally infusion or decoction of thyme herb on water or milk. Externally use the herb for compresses, lotions and aromatic baths for diseases of the joints, muscles and peripheral nerves, as well as festering wounds, burns, skin diseases. Thyme herb infusion 3%. wash your hair to strengthen the hair and for dandruff. Aromatic baths are also used in pediatric practice. Poultices for boils. The infusion is used for toothache and for spritzing instead of chamomile. Strong infusion used for lotions and eye wash, decoction of thyme root for baths with eczema. Sometimes thyme powder is used for powdering and as a snuff for fainting, and decoction of vegetable oil or alcohol tincture - for rubbing in paralysis and sciatica.

In sciatica from a collection of herbs thyme, St. John's wort, chamomile flowers and elderberry prepare a hot infusion, from which at night make compresses (necessarily hot) with wrapping (A. Б. Nikolaev).

In chronic alcoholism 15 g of thyme herb boiled for 15 minutes in 2 glasses of water, take 50 ml 2 times a day or 100 ml once a day for 2-4 weeks or 150-200 g decoction once and give the patient sniffed from a glass of wine or vodka. After 15-30 min the patient has urges to vomit. At this time, the doctor allows you to drink 10-15 ml of the usual alcoholic beverage. The patient then experiences vomiting, slight stomach cramps, sweating and increased heart rate. This treatment is carried out daily or every other day. For a course of 7-10 such combinations (A. Д. Methods of application:


1. 10% infusion of thyme herb - 15 ml 5-6 times a day as an expectorant.


2. 1 Art. spoon of thyme herb infuse in 300 ml of boiling water for 2 hours, add 1 tbsp. spoonful of honey - 100 ml before meals (D. Pamukov).


3. Pertussin - adults 15 ml, children from 0.5 h. Up to a dessert spoonful three times a day.


4. Infusion of 60 g of thyme herb in 1 liter of boiling water - to rinse the eyes.


5. Infusion of 100 g of thyme herb in 2 liters of boiling water, pour into the bath.


6. 20% tincture of herbs in 40% alcohol - 15 drops 3 times a day (A. П. Popov).


7. Ointment of 1 part powder and 5 parts fat, or 1 part tincture; or condensed decoction to 4 parts fat (A. П. Popov).


8. Thyme herbs 20 g, violet fragrant, bogulnik, leaves of mother and stepmother and hawthorn flowers - 10 parts each; 1 tbsp. spoonful of the mixture insist in 250 ml of boiling water, take during the day in 5-6 receptions for whooping cough (S. А. Tomilin).



Marshmallow thyme is contraindicated in pregnancy, decompensation of cardiac activity, peptic ulcer disease, kidney and liver disease (C. Я. Sokolov, E. А. Ladynina).

Cherry trifoliate (Bidens tripartita L.)

Trifoliate succession is an annual plant with a height of 15-100 cm or more from the aster family. The leaves are deeply trifoliate. Flowers are yellow in flat baskets. It blooms in July through August.

It grows everywhere in weedy places, along the banks of rivers, streams, ponds. In the Donbass there are also wilted and radiant succession, which cannot be harvested.

Prepare the tops of the herb of succession 15 cm long before flowering (in the budding phase). The herb contains a lot of carotene, flavo-noids, coumarins, polysaccharides, tannins, essential oil, vitamin C, bitters, mucilage, trace elements (manganese, iron, copper).

Threepartitioned succession has a multifaceted action - anti-allergic, diuretic, choleretic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, mild sedative, antiseptic, antitussive, anti-cough, wound-healing, blood purifying, and also reduces blood pressure, increases the amplitude of heart contractions, increases uterine contractions, stimulates the function of the adrenal cortex, improves appetite and digestion.

Cherry trifoliate



It is used for various diathesis and pustular skin diseases internally and externally, as well as for baths and microclysters for inflammation of the female genital organs. It is also used in folk medicine for colds, bronchitis, gastritis, ulcerative colitis, liver disease, spleen, kidney disease, cholecystitis, gout and other joint diseases, anemia, headache, neurosis, fright in children, atherosclerosis, hypertension, rickets, scurvy, pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic skin diseases in children and adults (diathesis, urticaria, eczema, neurodermatitis, scrofulosis, psoriasis, acne, furunculosis, seborrhea, wounds and ulcers). The powder from the leaves is used like snuff and sprinkled on festering wounds and ulcers. Decoction of the herb succession is used for baths, lotions for the above diseases, and also washed to make the skin soft, get rid of pimples and irritation. Grinded leaves are applied to the wounds of insect bites, ulcers. For the treatment of patients with psoriasis use an alcoholic extract of the herb of succession and ointment from it. В. М. Lard recommends investigating oil extracts of the herb as a wound-healing agent.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of succession herb 10% - 50-70 ml 3-4 times a day before meals.


2. Infusion of 3 tbsp. spoonfuls of herbs in 0.5 liters of boiling water (you can still boil 1 min) - 1/2 cup 3-4 times a day before meals.


3. 1 Art. spoonful of herb succession brewed in 250 ml of boiling water, insist 30 min - 15 ml 3-4 times a day children 10-12 years old, younger children - 10 ml, and up to 4-5 years - 5 ml per reception.


4. 20% alcohol tincture of succession grass - 20-50 drops 3 times a day for psoriasis.


5. Infusion (decoction) of 50-100 g in 10 liters of water - for external use.


6. Herb succession and lingonberry leaves 1 tbsp. spoonful of each insist in 250 ml of boiling water - 1/4 cup 3-4 times a day for 30 minutes before meals for furunculosis, eczema.


7. Grass succession, flowers of white marigold, yarrow, leaves and roots of burdock, strawberry leaves - 15 g, herb Ivan-da-mary - 20 g, mix, 20 g of the mixture boiled in 1 liter of cold water for 10 minutes - 30 ml hourly, children - 15 ml (blood-cleansing collection of skin diseases, scrofula and rickets).
