Woodland strawberry is a well-known perennial plant from the rose-flower family, 5-20 cm tall. It blooms in May - June, fruits ripen in June - July. It grows everywhere in thinned dry forests, in glades, edges, slopes of gullies and river valleys and between shrubs.

Forest strawberry - fruits (berries - fresh or dried) and young leaves collected during flowering, sometimes rhizomes are used. The berries have a distinctive aroma and flavor. It is not without reason that the writer V. Soloukhin considers it the most delicious of all berries. "Neither in the nuances of taste, nor in flavor it is not only equal, but also approaching to it," - he writes in his story "The Third Hunt".

The fruits contain organic acids, sugars, essential oil, vitamins C, B, carotene, a significant amount of folic acid, phytoncides, trace elements, flavonoids, pectins, tannins, tannins in the leaves - vitamin C, tannins, flavones and traces of alkaloids, in the roots - tannins.

In the experiment, the infusion of strawberry leaves slightly reduces blood pressure, slows down the rhythm and increases the amplitude of heart contractions, dilates peripheral vessels, increases the contraction of the uterine musculature and has a diuretic effect.

Forest strawberry has astringent, styptic, anti-inflammatory, choleretic, diaphoretic, anthelmintic, antimicrobial, expectorant, emollient, soothing, antipyretic, blood purifier, antispasmodic, mild laxative, antithyroid, wound-healing, antisclerotic effect, reduces the amount of uric acid and its salts in the body, has hepatoprotective effect, regulates metabolism, improves heart function and blood composition.

Bulgarian authors believe that the efficiency of forest strawberries and large-fruited strawberries (garden strawberries) is the same (V. Petkov). Л. Г. Dudchenko and V. В. Krivenko and other authors point out that the therapeutic effect of leaves of garden strawberries is somewhat weaker than forest strawberries (wild strawberries). Fresh fruits are of great importance as a dietary and nutritional product. They are eaten fresh, with cream or cold milk, prepare jam, syrup, jam, kisel and jelly, compotes.

In medical practice, use the infusion of fruits in avitaminosis and as a diuretic and diaphoretic.

Н. Г. Kovaleva recommends it for biliary and kidney stone disease, anemia, hypertension and atherosclerosis.

In folk medicine, strawberries are used very widely. The great popularizer of it was M. А. Nosal, who wrote that if we properly utilized the 3-4 week strawberry season for 2-3 years in a row, we would need resorts less often.

Strawberries are also used in the treatment of gout, osteochondrosis, metabolic polyarthritis, rheumatism, scurvy and other avitaminosis, general loss of strength, internal and uterine bleeding, diseases of the liver and biliary tract, etc. д.

Strawberry juice freshly consumed on an empty stomach 4-8 tbsp. spoonfuls for gallbladder and kidney stones, gout and other diseases.

Г. И. Zakharyin recommended for gout prolonged use of tea: a good pinch of herb and root insist in 1 glass of boiling water and drink in a day.

М. А. Nosal recommends an infusion of 50 g of strawberry leaves to 1 liter of water for chronic skin diseases and other diseases (daily dose), as well as eat up to 3 kg of ripe strawberries per day.

Strawberry berry crush or decoction of strawberry leaves is used for wounds, scabies and rashes. Fresh or dry steamed leaves applied to festering wounds and stale ulcers. In the home, strawberry leaves are used as a surrogate for tea. To do this, the leaves are fermented - moistened, stacked and put in an unheated oven to languish. These leaves are then dried and brewed as tea.

However, it should not be forgotten that in young children and less often in adults there is intolerance to the fruit and even to strawberry jam (idiosyncrasy), accompanied by allergic manifestations (hives, itching of the skin, etc.).). If this occurs, it is necessary to discontinue its use and consult a doctor. In addition, strawberries are contraindicated in pregnancy, increased secretion of gastric juice, prolonged hepatic colic and appendicitis.
