Naked hernia is an annual yellowish-green plant of the clove family. The stems of naked hernia are prostrate (similar to sporewort) from 10 to 20-30 cm long. The flowers are small, unsightly. It blooms from May to fall. When rubbing the fresh herb of the hernia with water, an abundant green soapy foam is formed, which well washes away dirt and softens the skin. It grows in many areas of Donbass on open sandy places, on dry stony soil, fields, fallow lands, edges of coniferous forest. It does not form large thickets.
Collect the herb during flowering, cutting it at the root. It gives a good yield in rainy summers. The herb mugwort contains coumarin and its derivatives, flavonoids, triterpene saponin, essential oil, and the glycoside gerniarin.
Infusion of the herb and fresh juice have a strong diuretic, antimicrobial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, astringent, wound-healing, choleretic effect, and also acts as an indirect anticoagulant (slows blood sedimentation by reducing the content of prothrombin).
It is used in scientific medicine in Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia. Widely used in folk medicine) in cystitis, chronic nephritis, pyelitis, pyelonephritis, involuntary urination, renal colic, kidney stone disease, etc.
In the decoction of the herb bathe children with diathesis, eczema. Fresh herb is applied to skin rashes, hard-to-heal wounds, dry skin, recurrent lichen. Some people prefer to apply the raw plant. In acute nephritis hernia is contraindicated (S. А. To-milin).

Methods of use:
.1. 10% infusion (decoction) of herbs - 15 ml 5-6 times a day before meals or 5% - 0.5 cup 2-3 times a day as a diuretic.
2. 1 Art. spoonful of herbs boiled 5 minutes in 0.5 liters of water, insist 30 minutes - 100 ml 4 times a day as a choleretic.
3. Corn stigmas 60 g, bean pods *, mint leaves, horsetail herb, hernia - 30 g, herb thyme and juniper fruit - 20 g; 4 tbsp. spoonfuls of the mixture insist in 1 liter of boiling water - a daily dose for phosphate kidney stones.
Н. И. Solomchenko repeatedly noted a good diuretic effect of 10% infusion of the herb in patients with cardiac edema (diuresis increased to 2 liters per day).

A perennial from the aster family. The rhizome is thick, fleshy, with long roots. Stems are straight, angular, sparsely branched at the top, up to 1-2 m high. The root leaves are large, on petioles up to 50 cm long. Flowers are golden yellow, collected in large baskets, on the top of the stem and branches, up to 8 cm in diameter. It blooms in July and August. It grows in many areas on chernozems, on damp meadows, bushes, river banks, less often on solonchaks. Raw material reserves are small and decreasing every year. Grows well in culture even without irrigation.
Rhizomes with roots containing essential oil, polysaccharides, triterpenes, lactones, saponins, vitamin E, resins, gum, mucus, bitters, organic acids and other substances are used.
Preparations of elecampane have a multifaceted action: pronounced expectorant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antibacterial, antifungal, antispasmodic, styptic, astringent, anti-allergic, mild diaphoretic and hypotensive, as well as increase the formation of bile and promote its excretion, excite the secretion of the stomach, intestines and pancreas, reduce intestinal motor function and improve digestion, reduce capillary permeability and improve blood thromboplastic function, stimulate the function of the ovaries and uterus.

Elecampane is used in medicine for bronchitis, tracheitis, catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, pneumonia, influenza, bronchial asthma, peptic ulcer, erosive gastritis and pyloroduodenitis, enterocolitis, worm infestation by solitaire, dwarf chain and ascarids (alantolactone is 25 times stronger than santonin). It is especially popular in folk medicine in Ukraine, similar to zhen-shen in China. It is used for intestinal atony, non-infectious diarrhea with abundant mucus, flatulence, hemorrhoids, diseases of the liver, gallbladder and gallstone disease, jaundice, habitual constipation, dropsy, fever, whooping cough, colds, tuberculosis of the lungs and bones, exhaustion, neuroses, myositis, benign and malignant tumors, to prevent premature birth, as a tonic, tonic, uterine, blood purifying, improving metabolism, appetite and heart function.
Н. И. Solomchenko prepared a 20% tincture of elecampane root and studied it in 100 patients with chronic bronchitis, most of them noted a good expectorant effect. In 1942- 1943. he successfully treated patients with eczema with ointment made from the powder of elecampane roots and horse sorrel, 1 tbsp. each. a spoonful of each per cup of fresh butter.
М. А. Nosal recommends for convalescent, weak and infirm people 12 g of fresh elecampane root boiled for 10 minutes in 0.5 liters of cahors or red port and take 50 g 2 times a day before meals.
Baths and lotions of hot decoction of elecampane root used for itchy rashes (eczema, neurodermatitis, scabies, scabies), as well as hard-to-heal wounds, parsha, scrofula, urticaria. In arthritis make poultices on the joints for a few minutes from the porridge of decoction of the root of elecampane. However, prolonged use of this decoction or poultice may cause skin burns and Quincke-type allergic edema in some patients.
In Bulgaria used for skin diseases 10% ointment of elecampane root powder on olive oil or lard. The fresh leaves are applied to swellings, and also in scrofula and wounds (D. Pamukov, V. Petkov).
Some brlny do general baths for joint diseases, but it should be done by appointment and under the supervision of a doctor. Alcohol tincture is used for rubbing in sciatica, myositis, arthrosis. Decoction of elecampane root - for gargling for inflamed gums, throat and toothache.
