Gleditsia triacanthos (Gleditsia triacanthos L.)



Gleditsia ordinary, Jerusalem thorn, Ukr.: gledichia prickly.

Commonly known powerful tree from the legume family up to 40 m tall. The trunk and branches are dotted with strong long prickles. The fruits are leathery flat beans up to 30 cm long or more. Occurs ubiquitously in public gardens, parks and field strips.

Gladicia leaves with cuttings, beans and roots no thicker than a finger, dug up in winter, are used in folk medicine. The leaves are harvested young within 10 days from the beginning of their budding.

Young leaves of Gladicia contain the alkaloid triacanthine, adult leaves contain vitamin C, beans contain flavonoids, saponins and other substances, beans' sashes (pods) contain anraglycosides, tannins and traces of vitamin K, fleshy walls of beans contain up to 29% sugar, flowers contain essential oil, which contains up to 85% eugenol and is used as an antiseptic on all mucous membranes. Triacanthine has a papaverine-like effect - it dilates peripheral and coronary arteries of the heart, reduces blood pressure and relieves spasms of smooth muscles of abdominal organs.

It is used in medicine for peptic ulcer disease, spastic colitis, chronic constipation, cholecystitis, bronchial asthma and hypertension stage I and II with angina pectoris (G. П. Gubina, A. Д. Turova, I. Л. Blinkoff). Triacanthine has now been removed from the nomenclature of medicines.

In folk medicine, gladicia beans are used for hypertension and ulcer disease, and the root is used for chronic polyarthritis. Half-liter jar of tuned fresh root gleditschiya pour 0.5 liters of 40% alcohol and heated on a water bath (but not to boiling), insist a day and again heated the same way and then insist three days, take 1 tbsp. spoon 3 times a day for 10 min before meals for 30-40 days.

Pods gledichiya, collected in the fall after freezing, 50-100 g, cut and boiled for 5-7 minutes in 3 liters of water over low heat, insist 8-10 hours, take half a cup 3 times a day for 30 minutes before meals for abdominal pain.

Gravilate urban (Geum urbanum L.)



Clove root, ukr.: vivishnik, pidlisnik, vrashnik.

Perennial of the rose family with an erect, low-branched stem 30-60 cm high. The root leaves of Gladicia are large-petioled on long petioles. The flowers are small, yellow, solitary. The fruits are hard-chained seeds. It blooms in May through August.

Gravilate urban

The root is red-brown, with a pleasant clove odor. Grows abundantly as a weed in woods, plantings, groves and among shrubs.

The roots are used, less often the herb. The raw material contains essential oil, many tannins, flavonoids, vitamins C, carotene, starch, glycoside genin, etc. Gravel has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, tonic, expectorant, sedative and styptic properties.

Used in folk medicine for hyperacid gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, enterocolitis, diarrhea, prolapse of the rectum and uterus, dysentery, flatulence, vomiting, worms, scurvy, intestinal colic, diseases of the liver, gallbladder, kidney, hemorrhoids and others.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 1 tbsp. spoonfuls of herbs in 250 ml of boiling water - 1/3 cup 3 times a day as an astringent, styptic.


2. 2 Art. spoonfuls of gravilata root boiled for 10 minutes in 0.5 liters of water - daily dose (astringent, styptic).


3. Gravilate root powder - 1 g (on the end of a knife) 3-4 times a day, preferably with honey for cough, bronchial asthma.


4. Tincture 5 tbsp. spoonfuls of gravilate root in 0.5 liters of wine - 1 tbsp. each. spoonful 1 h after a meal for chronic gastritis.


5. 20-40 g gravilat root boiled in 300 ml of water until boiled to half - 15 ml after 1 h for uterine bleeding.


6. 20% tincture of gravilat root in 0.5 liters of 40% alcohol - 15 ml 3 times a day before meals for gastritis with heartburn and other diseases.
