Narrow-leaved elm (Elaeagnus angustifolia L.)

Narrow-leaved loch is a thorny shrub or tree of the loch family, 3-7 m high. The leaves are silvery white. The flowers are fragrant, bright yellow. Narrow-leaved loch blooms in May - June, fruits ripen in August - October. They are sweet, powdery and slightly astringent. In Kyrgyzstan and the Caucasus, ripe fruits are used to make compote and grind into flour, which is added to bread, soups, and other dishes. The fruit can be preserved for a long time without processing. Ubiquitous in field and roadside plantings.

For medicinal purposes, the fruit of the sucker, less often the flowers, gum and leaves of the sucker are used. The pulp contains a lot of sugar, including fructose, mucus and polysaccharides, protein, tannins, traces of vitamin C, organic acids, fat, a lot of salts of potassium and phosphorus, in the leaves - vitamins E and C, carotene, in the flowers - essential oil, in the bark of trunks, branches and seeds - alkaloids, tannins and gum.

Preparations of loch have enveloping, astringent, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, expectorant, anthelmintic and wound-healing action.

In folk medicine in the Caucasus and Transbaikalia used the fruit of suckers in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (enterocolitis, diarrhea, especially in children), bronchitis, dropsy, colds, toothache. Flowers are used for edema, scurvy, hypertension, heart disease, leaves of loch - with rheumatic and gouty pain and as a wound-healing agent.

Water infusions and 10% alcohol tincture of flowers are used in inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract and to strengthen cardiac activity.

Decoction of the fruit of the loch is also used externally for gargles for inflammatory diseases of the mouth. Fresh crushed leaves of elk applied to festering wounds, powdered leaves sprinkle wounds. In sciatica, rheumatism, gout from wrapped in gauze steamed leaves make poultices on sore spots (L. Я. Sklarevsky).

Methods of application:


1. Infusion or decoction of 50 g of fruit in 300 ml of water - 2-3 tbsp. spoonfuls 3-4 times a day before or after meals as an astringent.


2. Powder from fruits of loch tso 5 tbsp. spoonfuls per day for adults and 1 tsp. spoon 3-4 times a day for children with enterocolitis.


3. 10% tincture of flowers in 40% alcohol - 1/2-1 tsp. spoon 3 times a day for acute respiratory infections and to strengthen the heart.


4. 50 g of crushed fruits insist 6 h in 2-3 glasses of cold water, strain, brew the remaining mass in two glasses of boiling water and mix with the infusion, use 30-45 ml 3-4 times a day before and after meals for diarrhea (A. П. Popov).



Compote and kisel from the fruit of the sucker is used as an astringent.

Common flax (Linaria vulgaris MilL)

Gladovnik, zhabreyi, wild flax, purgative, ukr.: bigun, toadstools, serpentine, lion. The plant is poisonous.

Common flaxseed is a perennial of the norichnium family, 30-90 cm tall. Leaves are linear, ordinary. Flowers are yellow with spurge, gathered in dense apical clusters. The fruit is an oblong boll. Common flax flowering from June through September. Grows as a weed everywhere along the edges of fields, roads, crops, on edges, meadows, slopes, in forests and plantings.

Flaxseed herb is used, containing alkaloid peganin, saponins and other glycosides, organic acids, flavonoids, phytosterol, vitamin C, tannins and other substances.

Flaxseed has laxative, choleretic, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, wound-healing, anthelmintic, emollient, diaphoretic, sedative, antispasmodic, expectorant and tonic action.

Flaxseed is used in folk medicine for atony (weakness) of the intestines with flatulence and prolonged constipation, diseases of the stomach, intestines, liver (cholecystitis, jaundice), kidney - cystitis, kidney stones, heart disease, shortness of breath, dropsy, edema cardiac and renal, diarrhea, urinary incontinence, ascariasis, initial forms of prostate hypertrophy and anemia.

More often used flax externally in the form of ointments, infusions and decoctions on water and milk for washing, lotions, compresses, compresses, bouts, baths and sitting baths - with hemorrhoids, scrofula, furunculosis, rashes, wounds, ulcers, pustules, eczema, lichens, acne, burns, dermatitis, warts and polyps, as well as wash the head for better hair growth.

Leaves and flowers of flaxseed in the form of porridge applied to boils and hemorrhoids. Ointment of powder of flaxseed herb is used for abscesses, fractures, scrofulous ulcers and hardened infiltrates. In hemorrhoids make ointment of fresh juice of green flaxseed herb on fat.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 1 tbsp. spoonfuls of flaxseed herb in 250 ml of boiling water, insist 10 min - 50 ml morning and evening as a laxative, diuretic and choleretic, and in Meniere's disease - 125 ml 2 times a day (V. В. Karhut).


2. Infusion of 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of flaxseed herb in 250 ml of boiling water - 15 ml 3 times a day (or 2-3 tsp. spoonfuls or 3-4 tbsp. spoonfuls at night for prolonged constipation (L. Я. Sklarevsky).


3. 10 g herb flaxseed boiled for 30 minutes in 0.5 liters of water, immediately strain - 1/3 cup 3 times a day as number 1, the same decoction is used externally.


4. Decoction of 15-30 g of seeds in 1 liter of water - 1 tsp. spoonful several times a day as a laxative and choleretic; or 5 g seeds boiled 10-15 minutes in 250 ml, insist 1h.


5. 10% tincture of flaxseed herb in 40% alcohol - 2-3 hours. spoonfuls at night as a laxative.


6. 10% decoction of flaxseed herb, thickened to half - 5 ml 3 times a day and as a laxative - 10-15 ml at night (A. П. Popov).


7. Collection of flaxseed grass - 1.5 parts, flowers of cumin - 1.5 parts, corn stigmas - 1 part; 1 tbsp. spoonful of the mixture insist 10 minutes in 250 ml of boiling water - 1/4 cup 3 times a day before meals for jaundice (V. В. Karhut, F. И. Mamchur).


8. Grass flaxseed and flowers of cumin - 15 g and corn stigmas - 10 g, 40 g of the mixture insist in 1L boiling water - 1/2 cup 3 times a day for kidney disease (M. А. Nosal).


9. 2 Art. spoonfuls of raw flaxseed herb heated with 5 parts of pork fat until the moisture evaporates, then strain and squeeze - ointment for hemorrhoids and other diseases.


10. 2 parts of dried flaxseed herb are whisked with 1 part of 70% alcohol and left in a closed vessel for several hours in a warm place, then add 10 parts of pork fat and heated in an open bowl on a water bath until the alcohol volatilizes, then squeeze and strain (E. Ю. Chasse).


11. Flaxseed flowers, oak bark and water pepper herb - 1 tbsp. each. spoonful of each soak for 12 hours in 1 cup of melted lard, then heated, stirring, strain. This ointment is smeared on a tampon and inserted into the anus and keep it for 4-5 hours - in hemorrhoids (M. А. Nosal, V. В. Karhut). With eczema, lichen use a similar ointment of flaxseed flowers.


12. 20 g of flaxseed herb boiled in 0.5 liters of milk - for compresses for hemorrhoids.


13. 2 parts of flaxseed herb powder are steamed for a long time with five parts of pork fat, then squeeze out the ointment, which is used for eczema, lichens, hemorrhoids.



Due to the toxicity of flaxseed, caution should be exercised when taking it internally, starting treatment with low doses..
