Wild medicinal plants of Donbass. Boudra Ivy and Black Elderberry.

Budra ivy (Glechoma heberacea L.)

Dog mint, blueshchik, koshechnik, ukr.: roshchschnik.

The plant is poisonous, use under medical supervision.

Budweed ivy is a perennial of the sponge family (Table. 7). It blooms from April through July. It grows everywhere in deciduous forests, groves, gardens, shrubs, meadows and riverbanks. Fresh or dried herb with flowers is used. It contains essential oil, saponins, choline, resin, wax, organic acids, vitamin C, tannins and bitter substances.

Budra ivy stimulates metabolism, has antiseptic, astringent, diuretic, choleretic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant, analgesic, styptic, laxative, sedative, diaphoretic, vetrogonanny, wound-healing, improves appetite and digestion and tonic effect. It is used in domestic and foreign folk medicine for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, bronchitis, chronic pneumonia, pleurisy, pulmonary emphysema, bronchial asthma, etc. д. For external purposes, you can use 20% tincture of raw herb in vegetable oil.

In Byelorussia, throat diseases are treated with decoction and steamed herbs are applied to the throat (I. Д. Jurkiewicz).

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 5-7 g of herb (2-4 tsp. spoonfuls in 250 ml boiling water - 1/3 cup 3 times a day as a diuretic, choleretic.



2. Infusion or 10-20 minute decoction of 1 tbsp. spoonfuls of herbs in 1.5 cups of water (for external use) for gout, boils.



3. Fresh herb juice - 2 tbsp. each. spoonfuls 2 times a day (choleretic).



4. Leaf powder - one pinch 3 times a day; or herb powder - 1 g with honey 2 times a day for liver diseases.



Black elderberry (Sambucus nigra L.).

A commonly known shrub or tree in the honeysuckle family. It grows everywhere. It blooms in June, and the fruit warms in August through September. Some gardeners breed red elderberry and grass elderberry.

Flowers and fruits are used in medicine, in folk medicine - young leaves and branches, bark of roots and branches, occasionally buds. Flowers contain: glycoside sambunigrin, essential oil, flavonoids, saponins, organic acids, tannins and mucilages, choline, vitamin C, steroid hormone, leaves contain glycoside, essential oil, fresh leaves contain vitamin C, carotene, traces of alkaloids, berries contain vitamins C and B, carotene, carotenoids, pectins, etc.

Infusion of elderberry flowers has diaphoretic, disinfectant, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, laxative, choleretic, expectorant, astringent, analgesic, antipyretic, sedative, blood purifying, antispasmodic, softening and wound healing properties. Used in medicine for colds, flu, bronchitis, bronchitis, laryngitis, kidney and bladder diseases, and neuralgia. Prof. A. Д. Turova recommends infusion of flowers of black elderberry for inhalations, gargles for respiratory diseases, sore throat, flu and bronchiectasis.

In the Middle Ages, elderberry was honored as a sacred tree. Its berries were believed to promote longevity (A. Ф. Gam- merman). Н. И. Solomchenko prepared and introduced in the regional central clinical hospital juice and syrup from black elderberry fruit for chronic constipation. In most of the 120 patients, these drugs had a good loosening or laxative effect, and no side effects were noted.

In folk medicine, in addition, elderberry is popular in diseases of the upper respiratory tract, sore throat, hoarseness

voice, runny nose, pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis, atherosclerosis, etc. д.

The infusion of bark or roots in Tatarstan is used in bronchial asthma (A. И. Schroeter). In Poland, the fruit is used as an emollient, analgesic and for diabetes. In Bulgaria, leaves are used for hypertension, ischialgia, shingles, decoction of root bark - for dropsy and obesity, young leaves and juice of elderberries (in the fall) as a general tonic for spring decline in strength and for the prevention of many diseases (6-8 leaves infused in 250 ml of boiling water, which is drunk before breakfast), to prevent cancer take syrup of elderberry black grassy (P. Dimkov). In Germany, elderberry juice and ripe berries are recommended for rheumatism and trigeminal neuralgia, decoction of berries in the form of porridge, kissel, jam from fresh or dried elderberries - as a blood purifier (course of 2-3 weeks), as well as used 1 tbsp. spoonful of jam in a glass of water as a soft drink and a laxative and diuretic (S. Kneip).

In Ukraine, elderberry juice is used for intestinal ulcers, stomach ulcers, hepatitis, sciatica, diabetes, mental fatigue, decoction of roots - for diabetes, kidney disease and various edemas, 10% infusion of dried elderberries - as a choleretic, diuretic and loosening agent. When beginning dropsy 6-8 g of crushed bark steamed in the oven for 5-6 hours in 0.5 liters of boiling water and take 1/2 cup 5-6 times a day. Roots and bark 15 g each boiled for 20 minutes in 1 liter of water (in kidney disease, dropsy and diabetes), decoction of young leaves in honey - in chronic constipation. Decoction of leaves and bark 5% take 200 ml at night as a laxative. Black elderberries are eaten for coughs. Do baths in a decoction of bark and flowers in rheumatoid arthritis, gout and skin rashes, and in the form of compresses, lotions - with burns, crusts, eczema, dermatitis, trophic ulcers, conjunctivitis, hemorrhoids (sitting baths); flowers boiled in milk, applied to boils, and cambium - with rusty inflammation and osteomyelitis. Boiled sacks with flowers of black elderberry and chamomile, taken equally, applied to myositis, neuralgia, arthralgia and pain in the ear. Young leaves, boiled in milk, applied to burns, boils, chafing and inflammation of hemorrhoidal nodes.

Other species of black elderberry are close to black elderberry in action. Black and red elderberry flowers repel household insects, rats and mice. Ripe black elderberries are delicious, edible and harmless. From them are prepared: drink - 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of dried elderberries poured 1 liter

water, bring to a boil and add 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of sugar; jam - 1 kg of raw elderberries pass through a meat grinder, add 1 kg of sugar, 1-2 cups of water and cook until thick.

Elderberry leaves are poisonous, in case of their overdose POSSIBLE poisoning: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shortness of breath, palpitations and convulsions.

Methods of application:


1. 2 Art. spoonfuls of flowers insist 30 minutes in 0.5 liters of boiling water, drink 250 ml 2 times a day as diaphoretic, 1/4 cup 1 hour before meals (astringent), or 10% infusion of flowers - 1 /4 cup 3-4 times a day, or infusion of 20 g flowers in 1 liter of boiling water - 3 cups a day as diaphoretic, diuretic.



2. Infusion of 18 g of fruit in 250 ml of boiling water - 15-30 ml 3 times a day (diaphoretic); or 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of dried elderberries insist 10-12 hours in 250 ml of boiled water at room temperature - 1/2-3/4 cup at night as a laxative.



3. 6-8 black elderberry leaves fresh or dried and 1 tbsp. spoon of sage leaves, boil for 10 minutes in 1.5 cups of water, add 1 tbsp. spoonful of honey - 0.5 cup 3 times a day for 4-5 weeks for hemorrhoids and as a hematopoietic; or 1/2 tbsp. spoonfuls of leaves insist 10-12 hours in 250 ml of water, then warm up and drink during the day; or 5% decoction of leaves and bark - 200 ml at night as a loosening agent.



4. Decoction of 1 tbsp. spoonfuls of crushed bark or root in 0.5 liters of water (boil for 15 minutes) - 100 ml 4 times a day (D. Pamu-kov); or decoction of 20 g of root in 0.5 liters of water - 50 ml 3-4 times a day with honey for 15 min before meals (M. С. Garbarets); or 30 g of ground roots boil in 1 liter of water until it boils down to 0.5 liter - 100 ml before meals for 40-50-60 days and longer for ascites (P. Dimkov).



5. Black elderberry bark 50 g, cornflower flowers and parsley root 25 g evaporate in 0.5 liters of boiling water to half - 30-45 ml 3 times a day for chronic renal failure (F. И. Mamchur).
