Aspen (gentian, whispering-tree)

Aspen grows in forests and shrubs, often in clearings and fires, in birch forests in many regions of Russia. The tree reaches a height of up to 30 meters. Its bark is gray, smooth. The buds are small, pointed, brownish, shaggy at first, then becoming glabrous. Aspen leaves on short branches, long-petioled, rounded or triangular, glabrous. The seeds are small, black. Aspen blooms in late April to early May.

For medicinal purposes, the bark of young branches is harvested in spring. The buds are also harvested in spring, the leaves in May-June.

Kidneys contain glycosides, resinous substances, alcohol, and mineral salts. Fresh leaves contain significant amounts of vitamin C, carotene, essential oils. Aspen has medicinal bark. Gallic acid, enzymes have been isolated from the bark.

Aspen, namely its buds have diaphoretic, diuretic, astringent, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and wound-healing effect. Tincture of aspen leaves is used for stomach diseases, chronic inflammation of the bladder, painful urination, hemorrhoids, furunculosis, gout, rheumatism. Aspen is very useful as a tincture. It is used externally to treat burns, eczema, hemorrhoids, furunculosis. Infusion of kidneys is useful for patients suffering from cystitis, hemorrhoids, acute gastritis, prostatitis. Ointment from crushed aspen buds is used for inflammatory processes on the skin, hemorrhoids, bruises, rheumatism. Common peach (gerdepi)

The common peach reaches a height of 3-5 m and is bred in gardens as a valuable fruit tree in the southern parts of the country. The peach crown is broad and the bark is reddish-brown. Leaves are elongate-lanceolate, with a pointed apex. The flowers are numerous, almost sessile. The fruit is a knuckle, large, spherical, greenish-white with blush. The bone is large, firm. The seed is bitter-smelling, almond-scented. The common peach blooms in the spring. Flowers bloom before or at the same time as leaves - in March-April.

For medicinal purposes, flowers are harvested during flowering; fruits and seeds - after their ripening.

The common peach has a wide application in folk medicine and heals many ailments. Fruits contain sugars, fiber, essential oil, proteins, organic acids (malic, tartaric, citric, cinnamic), a group of vitamins B, A, C, E, trace elements (potassium, calcium, magnesium, silicon, sulfur, iodine, fluorine, phosphorus, iron, nickel, zinc). The seeds contain fatty oil, glycoside, bitter essential almond oil.

Common peach, namely its leaves and flowers have diuretic and laxative action, the fruit - laxative, improving digestion action. They also have antiemetic and anti-scurvy properties.

Decoctions of peach leaves help patients suffering from rheumatism, headaches. They are used for hot baths, for eczema. Decoction of flowers is recommended to take as a diuretic and laxative. The common peach is very useful as fresh juice. This drink is indicated for patients with heart rhythm disorders, with low acidity of gastric juice (in hypoacid gastritis), constipation. Fir needles are soft, fragrant, narrow-linear, 1-2 cm long, flowers are unisexual, collected in spikelets. Cones are light brown, cylindrical, 5-6 cm long, cracked when ripe. Siberian fir has light brown seeds. The tree blooms in May and June. Seeds mature closer to fall (August-September).

Siberian fir is harvested in early spring (March) for medicinal purposes. For this purpose, its buds and fresh needles are collected. Bark is harvested throughout the year, but best in winter; seeds are harvested in fall.

The needles and young branches are rich in essential oil. Fresh needles contain vitamin C. The fatty seed oil contains vitamin E. By the way, camphor is derived from the essential oil of the fir tree. Its bark is used to produce oleoresin, called fir balsam. Oleoresin is rich in essential oil and resin (turpentine is produced from oleoresin). Siberian fir has a favorable effect on the human nervous system.

Siberian fir can cure many chronic and acquired ailments. Infusion of crushed needles is used as a diuretic and anti-congestant. Ointment prepared on the basis of camphor is used in rheumatism, myositis, neuralgia.

Fir oil, obtained from the needles and young shoots of the tree, is especially valued. Various creams based on such oil make the skin softer and more elastic. Such a cream promotes faster healing of wounds on the skin. Siberian fir, namely extracts from its needles are very valuable in modern cosmetology.
