Black-headed thistle (Pulsatilla nigricans Storck)
Son-grass, Ukr.: a dreamcatcher. All species of thistle are poisonous.
Black strelorette is a perennial from the buttercup family. Stem is erect, densely soft-haired. Leaves are rooted, very shaggy, almost white at the beginning of flowering. Black strelorette blooms in April through May. Flowers are solitary, large, dark brown on a long pedicel, drooping.
Blackheaded prostrelle is found in many places in the Donbass. Grows on sunny dry sandy and saline slopes, in light pine forests, on forest edges. It grows well in culture in the Donetsk Botanical Garden.
In the Donbas, two more species of prostrels are occasionally found: the broad-leaved (P. latifolia Rupr.) with beautiful purple flowers that do not droop, and Ukrainian (P. ucrainica Wissjul.).
All prostrels are included in the Red Book of Donbass. It is not a good idea to pluck the plant unnecessarily.
The herb is used with flowers or harvested without flowers from May 15 to June 15. The fresh plant contains: essential oil, protoanemonin, phytoncides, alkaloids, saponins, vitamins, in the dry herb of prostrel: tannins, glucoside-like, alkaloid-like and resinous substances, more than 20 different macro- and microelements, protoanemonin was not found.
Fresh herb of prostranol is poisonous, when applied to the skin it causes a chemical burn with the appearance of large watery or bloody blisters and even ulcers, accompanied by burning and pain. Three to five months after collection, the dried herb loses its irritant and toxic properties. The herb can be stored for no more than one year.
Experimental and clinical preparations of prostrelle were studied in Dnepropetrovsk Medical Institute by Prof. G. Е. Batrak and his students, where 7 dissertation works were performed. However, until now, this interesting plant in the medicine of our country is not used. Included in the Pharmacopoeias of France, Portugal, Germany, England and the United States.
In folk medicine, infusion and tincture of fresh plants and infusion and powder of dry plants are used in diseases of the nervous system (insomnia, headache, cramps, migraine, spasmophilia in children, neuralgia, neurosis, hysteria, dizziness), diseases of the heart and blood vessels with heart failure, dropsy, hypertension, cough, bronchial asthma and whooping cough.

А. П. Levchuk recommended that 6 g of dried or 4 g of fresh prostrel leaves be boiled in 400 ml of water until half remains and taken 15 ml 5 times a day.
In the clinics of the city. Dnepropetrovsk applied 20% infusion of dry herb of prostranum 15 ml 3-5 times a day for 2-3 weeks in patients with hypertension stage I and II with positive results (I. Г. Foure). In neuroses, psychomotor excitations and acute psychosis of a functional nature - the infusion was prescribed 30-45 ml, and the tincture - 1/2 tsp. spoonfuls 3-4 times a day for several weeks; in glaucoma - infusion of 15-30 ml 3 times a day for 2-3 months.
In China, the juice of the herb prostrel's spurge in a mixture with honey is taken for glaucoma at 5 ml per reception.
Methods of application:
1. 1 to 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of dry herb prostrel in 250 ml of boiling water for 2h - 15ml 4 times a day for bronchitis.
2. 5% decoction of grass prostrel with flowers or without flowers - 15 ml in 2-3 hours for hypertension, neuroses, dizziness.
3. 10-20% tincture of dried grass prostrel on 40% alcohol - 30 drops or 1/2 tsp. spoonfuls 3 times a day with water internally and externally in bronchial asthma.
4. 2 ч. spoonfuls of herbs of prostranol infuse in 250 ml of cold water for 24 h, drink in sips during the day as No. 2.
The plant is contraindicated in hyperacid gastritis and nephritis (D. Yordanov).

Motherwort, heartwort, ukr.: sobacha krupiva.

Motherwort is a perennial of the clematis family. Stems are straight, tetrahedral, pubescent along the ribs, branched at the top, 50-200 cm high. Leaves are petiolate, dark green above and light green below, the lower leaves are palmately five-divided. Flowers in whorls at the tops of stems, corolla double-necked, pink. Motherwort five-lobed blooms in June - July. It is found all over Donbas, especially in Dobropolsky, Amvrosievsky, and Slavyansky districts. Motherwort pentelopastny grows on weedy and abandoned places, wastelands, along beams, under fences and near villages. It grows well in culture.
In addition to this species can be harvested also motherwort heartwort (B. cardiasis), which is more frequently found in Yasinovatsk, Maryinka, Volodarsk, and Novoazovsk districts. Its stems and leaves are glabrous and its flowers are mauve-pink.
Prepare the oblique tops of motherwort herb at the beginning of flowering. The herb contains choline, stachydrine and other alkaloids, flavonoids, bitters, saponins, sugars, essential oil, vitamin C, isovalerian acid, tannins and other substances.
It has a calming effect on the central nervous and cardiovascular system, 3-4 times stronger than valerian, and also lowers blood pressure, slows the rhythm and increases the strength of heart contractions, accelerates the process of blood clotting, has anticonvulsant, astringent, diuretic, styptic, antispasmodic, tonic and uterine properties.
In scientific medicine was introduced after the studies of Siberian scientists N. В. Vershinina, D. Д. I block a et al.as well as D. М. Russian.
Used motherwort in defects and diseases of the heart muscle, complicated by heart failure I-II degree and angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, the initial stage of hypertension, cardiovascular neuroses, vegetoneuroses, vegetodystonia, neurasthenia, hystenia, epilepsy, basidovascular disease, cerebrovascular sclerosis, Meniere's syndrome, uterine bleeding, hypomenstrual syndrome and pathological menopause with marked vegetovascular dystonia.
Н. И. Solomchenko was convinced of the effectiveness of 20% tincture and 5-10% infusion of herb motherwort cardiac in 100 patients with hypertension stage I-II. Positive result was noted in 90 patients, systolic pressure decreased by 40-60 mm of mercury column.
Hearthwort

In folk medicine motherwort is used for chorea, headache, cramps, fright, hypochondria, paralysis, neuroses, neuralgia, insomnia, palpitations and heart palpitations, anemia.
М. А. Nosal preferred to use the juice of the plant natural (30-40 drops per 15 ml of water 30 min before meals) or juice preserved with alcohol in a ratio of 2 : 3, - 5 ml 3 times a day. Infusion (decoction) of the herb is used for compresses for burns and wounds.
