Common shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa pastoris L.)


Sparrow's eye, red-eye, ukr.: griciki zvichajsh, siriki.

Common shepherd's purse is a well-known annual plant from the cruciferous family with a height of 20-60 cm. Common shepherd's purse blooms in May through June. Occurs everywhere as a weed in yards, gardens, vegetable gardens, parks, roadsides, fields, vacant lots.

It is used herb redwort with root leaves, collected during flowering, which contains glycosides hyssopine and others, vitamins C and K, carotene, acetylcholine, tyramine, tannins, flavonoids, phytoncides, trace elements, organic acids, a lot of potassium, inositol and others.

Many people believe that fresh redbud herb and the juice from it is more effective. It is used in medicine as a styptic and uterine remedy in obstetric and gynecological practice, as well as for internal bleeding.

С. А. Tomilin and other doctors recommend it for hypertension, atherosclerosis and intestinal atony. Japanese physicians Kuroda and Takachi also discovered the ability of a preparation from the herb redwort to dilate the coronary vessels of the heart (cit. By N. К. Fruentgen).

In folk medicine, in addition, is used for biliary and kidney stone disease, kidney disease, acute and chronic pyelonephritis.

In urinary incontinence apply fresh juice of redworm - 50 drops in a spoonful of water 3 times a day or infusion of 3 tbsp. spoonfuls of herbs of ginger in 350 ml of boiling water, insist 2 hours - 1/3 cup 3 times a day.

In pulmonary tuberculosis use a decoction of 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of shepherd's purse herb and 1 tbsp. spoons of oak bark in 3 cups of water (boiled for 10-15 minutes on low heat), insist 5-6 hours, drink 250 ml morning and evening.

Externally used decoction of herbs for lotions, washes and compresses for bruises, wounds, for gargling the throat, the juice of rye - with nosebleeds. In the decoction of the herb wash the head with dandruff.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 3-4 tbsp. spoonfuls of fresh or 10-20 g of dry herb ginger in 2-3 cups of boiling water - daily dose as a styptic, atony bowel, angina pectoris.


2. 2 Art. spoonfuls of herbs of ryzhukha boiled 3-10 minutes in 0.5 liters of water - 100 ml 4 times a day before meals as № 1 (V. Petkov).


3. 6 ч. spoonfuls of fresh herb reddish insist 8 h in 1 liter of cold water - a daily dose for hypertension, various bleeding.


4. Tincture of herb ginger 10-20% - 1 tsp. spoonful 3 times a day as #3.


5. Juice of leaves natural or canned 40% - alcohol - 10-15 ml 3 times a day for 1 h before meals as # 3.


6. 2 Art. spoonfuls of shepherd's purse herb and 1 tbsp. spoonful of oak bark boiled 10 minutes in 0.5 liters of water and 1/2 cup of port wine; drink during the day in cavernous pulmonary tuberculosis (M. А. Nosal).


7. Collection of herbs shepherd's purse and ergot - 15 g each, mistletoe leaves - 20 g; 1 tbsp. spoonful of the collection insist in 250 ml of boiling water for 30 minutes - 3/4 cup every evening for heavy periods (F. И. Mamchur).


8. Collection of grass shepherd's purse, horsetail, beechgrass, plantain leaves and scumpia - 50 g each; 2 tbsp. spoonfuls of the mixture boiled for 10 minutes in 0.5 liters of boiling water in a closed bowl, insist - 50 ml 3 times a day for metrorrhagia (V. Petkov).


9. Grass shepherd's purse and horsetail - 2 tbsp. each. Spoonfuls of each insist 2 hours in 3 cups of boiling water - 1/2 cup 3 times a day as a styptic.



The plant is contraindicated in pregnancy and thrombophlebitis.

White stepleaf (Bryonia alba L.)


Bryonia white, Ukr.: overstep, nechshay-zyla.

The plant is poisonous.

The white peregrine is a perennial liana in the gourd family. Stems thin, very long (up to 4 m), tufted, with tendrils. The leaves are rough, broad, resembling the leaves of a cucumber. The flowers are yellow-green. It blooms in June through July. The fruit is a juicy, green and then black berry. The root is white, thick, weighing up to 3 kg or more, with an unpleasant odor and bitter taste. White peregrine - found in Donbas in forests, among shrubs, near fences. Its reserves are limited and the plant is subject to protection. Grows well in culture when sown under winter sowing.

For medicinal purposes in homeopathy and folk medicine, the root of stupa is used, containing glycoside brionine, resin, urea, starch, essential oil, tannins and other substances.

When working with fresh root and fruit, under the influence of its juice on the hands and mucous membranes can appear dermatitis, burns and even blisters.

A. К. Pharmanyan noted the positive effect of infusion and tincture of the root of perestupan in patients with hypertension. Н. И. Solomchenko used 10% alcoholic tincture of raw root of perestupium in 12 patients with hypertension stage I and II, in 8 of them noted good hypotensive effect.

Tincture of the root of the stump is included in homeopathic preparations: akofit, used internally, alcohol "Lori" and ointment brionia (external) - for sciatica, myositis, neuralgia and joint diseases.

White stool has long been used in folk medicine for epilepsy, neuroses, neuralgia, paralysis, migraine, diseases of the lungs, bronchi, pleura, liver, heart, peptic ulcer.

B. Goretsky, Wilk, Gager in dropsy recommended fresh juice from the root of peredunium 4-8 g (1 -1.5 tsp. spoonfuls) with water 1-2 times a day (no more than 10 ml per reception); or tincture of 30 g of root in 700 ml of wine - 15 ml several times a day. They consider this tincture to be a strong diuretic.

Externally, a weak decoction of the root rinse the mouth for sore throat and teeth, rinse for rashes, parsha, scabs, scabies, rashes and ulcers on the skin; steamed root applied to scabs, boils, bruises, dry powder sprinkled on wounds, fresh juice remove pigment spots on the skin, warts, alcohol tincture or ointment rub joints, treat sciatica, neuralgia and myositis.

In Bulgaria, a suspension is prepared from 1 tsp. spoonfuls of root powder, which is mixed with 100 g of sunflower oil. Others prepare an ointment from 1 part of fresh juice of peregrine in 4 parts of fat. Care should be taken not to apply the ointment to large areas of the body.

Methods of application:


1. Infusion of 1 tsp. spoonfuls (6 g) of root in 200 ml of boiling water - 15 ml 3 times a day as an expectorant (C. А. Tomilin).


2. Powder of the root of the stump - 0.5 g 3 times a day as a laxative.


3. 10% tincture of raw or dried root of peredusen - 5 ml 3 times a day for hypertension and other diseases, as well as for external purposes.


4. Ointment of 10 ml of tincture and 50 g of pork fat or sunflower oil to rub or lubricate painful places (N. С. Kharchenko).



Due to its poisonous nature, white stupa should be used with caution and doses should not be exceeded..
