Medunica medicinalis (lungwort) (from Lat. pulmo - lungs) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the borage family. The stem is erect, 15-30 cm high, covered with soft glandular down of hairs. Leaves velvety, with dense and soft pubescence, root leaves long-petiolate, elliptic, acute, large; stem leaves smaller, sessile, ovate-lanceolate, acute. Flowers drooping in many-flowered brushes, clustered in a shield at the top of the stem, violet-blue, pink before flowering. Medunica medicinalis blooms in April - May. Honeycreeper (Fig. 48).

Medunica medicinalis is distributed in the western European part of the former USSR, Siberia and the Caucasus. Grows in mixed and birch forests, along forest edges and forest meadows.

Manganese also stimulates growth, activates vitamin Bi and regulates the activity of some glands of internal secretion.

Medunica medicinalis is not used in scientific medicine in the USSR.

In the GDR, the use of medunica was recommended as a good remedy for lung disease and as a diuretic. In Germany, pharmacies always stock this herb or in mixture with other herbs with indications in lung disease (Dorfler, Roselt, 1964).

In France and Poland, the properties of medunica are used for respiratory diseases.

In Bulgaria, the ground part of medunica is recommended for inflammation of the respiratory tract, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchitis, asthma and as a diuretic. Bulgarian experts recommend the use of medunica as an infusion for pulmonary tuberculosis, inflammation of the pharynx and bronchi and asthma.

In domestic folk medicine and folk medicine abroad is widely used as a remedy that regulates the activity of the glands of internal secretion. Honeydew's properties improve hematopoiesis, analgesic and emollient properties.

In domestic folk medicine, the use of medunitsa is recommended for lung diseases (lung herb): with inflammation of the lungs, pulmonary tuberculosis, hemoptysis, catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, bronchitis. In addition, in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and as a wound-healing agent - leaves are applied to wounds, powder from dried leaves fill wounds. Externally used for scrofula as a therapeutic bath.

Young leaves and shoots are eaten for mashed potatoes, salads, soups.
