Sometimes it is so abundant, especially when the spring water stagnates, and its thickets are so dense that it gives the impression of some unreality, antiquity. Its range is vast: from the European Arctic to the Lower Volga, from Western to Eastern Siberia. It is also found in the Caucasus and Central Asia.

The French call the queen of the meadows labaznik, and Russian synonyms for it are countless: and tavolga, and belolovnik (for the white-cream caps of flowers), and me-dovnik (for the smell of honey emitted by the inflorescences). And the scientific name of Filipendula elms combines two Greek words: fipos - "love" and ippos - "horse". But why a horse? It turns out that the labdanum plant is a favorite food of horses, which the ancient Greeks treated with this herb.

Labazhnik elm-leaved - a large perennial plant (up to 1 m high). The leaves of the labdanum are similar to elm leaves, so its species name is elm-leaved. Labaznik blooms in mid-July, and blooming continues through the end of summer. People believe: labaznik blossomed - summer has passed to the second half. And now "the slanting hill has turned into a foamy cascade: so the flowers-geysers are whipping, enveloping the grass with milky vapor. Not brushes, but whipped cream! - so much lightness and whiteness in them" (Yu. Linnick). The large panicles of the inflorescences of climbing lambsquarters consist of numerous small yellowish or creamy-white flowers emitting a very strong and tart fragrance (Fig.16).

At the time of mass blooming of the elm-leaved laburnum, all neighborhoods are fragrant. The scent of laburnum is reminiscent of the smell of fresh cucumbers or freshly baked bread. Numerous insects hover over the flowering thickets of climbing elm, collecting a sweet tribute, and bees receive a generous honey bribe from them.

In the people are very revered plant labaznik and call it magpie, helping allegedly from forty ailments. It is harvested in "white" for medicines. Chemical analyses have shown that all parts of climbing climbing elm have a lot of healing substances: in the underground - tannides, flavonoids, coumarins, leucoanthocyanins, vitamin C; in the leaves of climbing elm - in addition to those listed there are catechins and up to 0.2% vitamin C. The flowers also contain essential oils, aromatic compounds, steroids, phenolcarboxylic acids, phenol glycosides, carotenoids; the seeds of labdanum contain tannins, wax, fatty oils.

The plant labaznika elm-leaved is revered by lovers of medicinal herbs. Tea from the flowers of laburnum in the people are considered a good diaphoretic remedy; it is not only useful, but tasty and fragrant. Infusion of the herb of laburnum elm-leaved used in nephritis, cystitis, rheumatism, gout. There are indications of the use of the labdanum plant in veterinary medicine: as a tonic, astringent, styptic and antipyretic. It is also used for gastrointestinal diseases in animals. In our flora, 12 species of the labdanum plant are known. One of them is naked laburnum. Its ecology is ambiguous, but among its habitats are wetlands. Chemical analyses have shown that all its parts contain active substances: flavonoids, tannids, essential oils, aromatic compounds.

The Far East is home to the Kamchatka labaznik (Shelomainik), an endemic, very ornamental species.
