Periodic disease - this disease is quite common in Armenia and Yerevan, people even call it "Yerevan disease".
Medicine classifies it as collagenosis and categorizes it among autoimmune diseases such as rheumatism, systemic lupus erythematosus, and scleroderma.
The common manifestation is systemic damage to the body's connective tissue.
Tissue that performs a supporting function and connects all the organs of the human body into a single whole.
These tissues include bones, cartilage, vessels, blood, lymph, intercellular fluid, mucous membranes, skin with subcutaneous tissue, hair, nails, and the stroma of all internal organs, i.e. their framework.
As you can see, this binding connective tissue in the body is present everywhere.

What happens in collagenosis? A metabolic disorder in connective tissue, disruption of its cellular structures and degeneration of the collagen structure of the fibers of this tissue into an amorphous jelly-like mass - amyloid.
In rheumatism, this disorder occurs in joint tissues and heart tissue; in scleroderma and disseminated lupus erythematosus, it occurs in the skin and internal organs, in part.
And when a person has periodic disease, inflammation and structural abnormalities occur in the connective tissue stroma of all internal organs, predominantly in the abdominal cavity (abdominal form) or in the thoracic cavity (thoracic form).
